  1. Hi, David, This PSA is great.  I will have to look through our “gardening supplies” and get rid of any stuff with nicotinoids. It looks like we’re good on bee attractor plants, but not so good on bees.  Bumble bees are working very hard, luckily, but the birds seem rather confused!  BTW, after the winter they had up here without us (we were in Florida)  and some cold weeks in April, we are now in spring.  Our prize crab apple tree budded on Sunday, and now the petals are already scatteringto the wind (after about a week of 80+ days… yesterday it dropped 30 degrees…)  Most years it is dark and fragrant for some days, as in the picture below; this year it is already very pale, with the petals liningthe front walk.  Nice walk for a wedding… Likewise, all the flowering shrubs and trees are hurrying to get their blooms in.  Lilacs are coming and going fast… not anything like the three-week season we’re used to.  Right now, in our yard, we have flowering:  apple tree, crab apple, (non-productive) nectarine tree, lilacs, azaleas, bleeding heart, viburnum, forget-me-not, primrose, honeysuckle, violets, grape hyacinth… and that’s just what I can remember, sitting inside shortly before midnight.  Gone already are forsythia, daffodils, crocuses, tulips,Star of David (Scilla), Hungarian violets.  The trees are still pushing their leaves out.
